2011 ELASTOPLAST SPORT - SPORTS MEDICINE CONFERENCE

The 2011 Sports Medicine Conference has an educational emphasis on snow sports, and has been tailored for all health professions, including Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Osteopathic, Nursing, Sports Physicians and General Practitioners. The course offers up to date continuing education sessions and networking opportunities, all set in the beautiful Falls Creek alpine village. 

The speakers, Mr Tim Retchford, Ms Kelly Creamer, Ms Alison Fitzgerald,  Mr David Kidd, Mr Andrew Meehan and Dr Dominic Blanks MBBS have all worked in the field of elite sports medicine, and will provide engaging and relevant discussions which are easily transfered to the workplace environment. Delegates will be able to enjoy snow sports in the morning and attend the continuing education sessions in the early evening.

Delegates should be aware that the registration fees does not include accomodation, and that sourcing accomodation from the Quay West Resort is entirely at the discretion of the attending delegate.  Some attending delegates may already be familiar with the Falls Creek resort, either having their own favourite hotel/lodge or be members of club lodges. The resort offers a wide variety of accomodation styles and standards, with some hotels including all meals and equipment hire as part of the tarrif. Free Entertainment.  

Following the conference registration hour on Thursday 28th July, the Falls Creek ski resort will provide a ` Night Show Spectacular`, which includes skiing demonstrations and a fireworks display, starting at 8pm. Following the final night of conference presentations on Saturday 30th July, starting approximately 7.00pm, the Falls Creek resort will be hosting the `Sled Dog Classic`, where Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes and their mushers will be racing in the heart of Falls Creek Village at night under lights. SPEAKERS

Dr Dominic Blanks MBBS, graduated from Monash University, Victoria, after which he has worked in the areas of paediatrics, neonatal intensive care and emergency medicine. Dr Blanks moved to Mt. Beauty, Victoria, to study for a fellowship in the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine with an interest in Remote / Alpine Medicine. On a sporting level, Dr Blanks has previously competed at national and international levels in the sport of Badminton, but freely admits that shuttles don`t travel well in snow.

Mr Tim Retchford, physiotherapist, graduated with an honors degree at the University of Melbourne, followed by a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy, and is currently undertaking a PhD with the University of Melbourne investigating the active stability mechanisms of the hip joint. Tim has been associated with elite athletes throughout his career, and is the current Australian Ski Team ( Cross Country ) Physiotherapist as well as working closely with the Korean Triathalon Team, and the VIS runners and cyclists. Tim currently lectures at the Charles Sturt University ( Albury ), and has made the tree change to live at Mt Beauty, where he also remains active in competitive road cycling.

Ms Kelly Creamer, Podiatrist, graduated with honours from La Trobe University, Melbourne, and has since worked in the United Kingdom, Warrnambool and is now a Clinical Educator at Charles Sturt University ( Albury ), and part time private practitioner. Kelly`s podiatric interests include musculoskeletal issues and the high risk foot.

Ms Alison Fitzgerald, Podiatrist, graduated in 1989, and has worked in the rural and remote sector in both public and private podiatry. After completing her Masters in Business Administration and a time as Chief Podiatrist, Alison now works in North East Victoria, working with athletes to achieve their desired goals. Alison has sporting interests in hockey and kayaking.

Mr David Kidd, Podiatrist, had worked with the Australian Ski Team to solve complex boot fitting needs. David now manages an allied health team at a North East Health Service, and competes in mountain bike endurance races.
